Book Design Intern

Company Overview Armour Publishing is a Singapore-based independent publisher established in 1991, producing books with purpose through 4 imprints; Christian, Children, Education & General genres. Job Summary You will assist the design and layout of book projects, creating moodboards and storyboards, coordinating with editorial teams, and ensuring print and screen specifications are met to deliver visually compelling and readable publications. Responsibilities • Conceptualize and develop moodboards, storyboards, and design directions for book projects, including inside pages and cover designs • Arrange page elements such as images, illustrations, text, graphics, and infographics for both print and digital media to enhance visual storytelling • Apply typography principles by proposing typography direction and executing typesetting to ensure clarity and aesthetic appeal • Determine appropriate text and image sizes per page while maintaining optimal image aspect ratios for balanced layouts • Review and examine page proofs to ensure final layouts meet quality standards before approval • Coordinate effectively with editorial teams and other stakeholders to align design with project goals and deadlines • Ensure book layouts comply with print and screen specifications to guarantee readability and production accuracy Preferred competencies and qualifications • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Arts, or a related field • Internship experience as a layout designer or graphic designer • Proficiency in desktop publishing software including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, and Illustrator • Strong composition and visual design skills with a deep understanding of typography principles • Artistic and drawing skills to support creative design development • Advanced proofreading skills to ensure accuracy and quality of text elements • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment • Excellent communication skills to facilitate coordination and feedback
