Legal Counsel, Global Markets (Contract)

Reports Directly to Senior Legal Counsel, Global Markets JOB SUMMARY Contract position till 31st Dec 2026 (likely extendable or conversion to perm) to provide legal support to the Global Markets businesses and functions with focus on digital assets and digital trading platforms, driven by a laser focus on Legal’s and FM’s core QPR/MPR scorecard objectives both as to product and region. Responsibilities: • Negotiating and drafting documentation for onboarding of, and/or trading with, liquidity providers, clients, technology providers in respect of digital assets and digital platform trading of derivatives. • Monitoring legal developments, assessing impact and informing stakeholders of such developments on the digital assets business. • Providing input on policy papers and projects relating to digital assets and digital platform trading. • Supporting and implementing applicable Group legal standards, practices, and requirements. • Providing input for internal governance forum. • Working in close collaboration with other Legal colleagues, as well as other functions to support the Global Markets business. Strategy: • Execute Legal’s strategy and contributions to group ROTE: • Provide general structuring, product, regulatoryand transactional legal advice. • Negotiate, complete and facilitate execution of transaction documentation. • Review, maintain and manage product and transactional templates. • Provide training on legal/documentation product and regulatory matters and legal policies and procedures. • Liaise with external counsel and with regional and client segment legal and compliance colleagues. Business: • Assist in the identification of material legaland jurisdictional risks for the relevant businesses. • Anticipate and assesses key legal developments in the business for management consideration and help drive the development and implementation of appropriate legal framework. • Participate in the overall governance of a business. • Control, monitor and report external legal spending. • Track and monitor relevant legal developments in the area of digital assets. Processes: • Manage documentation templates creation • Legal knowledge management. • Assist with review of and compliance with policies and procedures. • Consider and analyse cross border legal and regulatory risks. People &Talent • Build strong relationships with relevant business stakeholders and functions. Risk Management • Assist in the identification of material legal and jurisdictional risks for the relevant businesses. • Participate in the overall governance of abusiness. • Determine adequacy, validity, and enforceability of contractual documentation. Governance • Review and provide legal signoffs for product and country governance documents. • Design, develop and approve new product documentation and country specific documentation. • Consider and analyse cross border legal and regulatory risks. Key stakeholders • Financial Global Markets’ business heads, structuring, sales located or supporting the region, and in relation to digital assets, the global region. Other functions and legal department colleagues supporting the FM GM Business. QUALIFICATIONS • Degree in Law • Approximately 2 to 7 years post-qualifying experience as a lawyer in any commonwealth jurisdictions. • Experience in providing legal support for digital assets trading, digital trading platforms onboarding and trading for derivatives, or general experience in financial markets products.
