About this role
Pastry Chef (Pâtissier) is responsible for preparing, baking, and presenting desserts, pastries, breads, cakes, and other baked goods in restaurants, hotels, bakeries, cafés, or catering businesses. They also create new recipes, manage inventory, supervise kitchen staff, and maintain food safety standards. Responsibilities • Prepare pastries, cakes, breads, cookies, and desserts to meet quality and presentation standards • Design and develop new dessert menus and seasonal recipes to enhance customer offerings • Decorate and present baked products attractively to ensure visual appeal and consistency • Monitor ingredient stock levels and order supplies to maintain uninterrupted kitchen operations • Maintain hygiene and food safety standards to comply with regulatory requirements • Supervise and train junior bakers or pastry staff to improve team performance and skills • Ensure consistency in taste, texture, and presentation across all baked goods • Handle custom orders for events and celebrations, ensuring timely and accurate delivery • Manage kitchen equipment and workstations efficiently to optimize workflow and safety Required competencies and certifications • Baking and pastry-making techniques to produce high-quality baked goods • Knowledge of food hygiene and sanitation to uphold safety standards • Leadership and teamwork skills to manage and collaborate with kitchen staff • Inventory and cost control knowledge to minimize waste and control expenses Preferred competencies and qualifications • Diploma or certification in culinary arts or pastry arts (preferred) • Experience working in bakery, hotel, or restaurant kitchens • Knowledge of baking equipment and ingredients • Food safety certification may be required
