About this role
Overview Founded in 2021, NEU Battery Materials is a Singapore-based climatetech company that developed the world’s first patented electrochemical redox recycling method to recycle used lithium batteries. The company focuses on extracting critical lithium from lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries that are found in electric cars and energy storage systems, which will be key in developing a circular supply chain. NEU aims to be the largest, cleanest, and most neutral source of recycled lithium globally. NEU’s contribution to electrification and circularity has been recognized by the likes of the Temasek Foundation, BloombergNEF, Forbes Asia, and many others. This is a contract role with the potential to convert to a permanent position based on performance and fit. We are looking for an experienced Process Engineer to join our engineering team during a critical scale-up phase. This is a hands-on role and you will be expected to own commissioning preparation, lead trial run execution, and bring the structured discipline of someone who has been through this in an industrial setting. Please send your resume to careers@neumaterials.com Responsibilities Commissioning & Trial Run Execution • Drive the preparation and execution of process line commissioning — defining steps, sequencing activities, and coordinating the team and contractors • Own the commissioning checklist and ensure all pre-commissioning requirements (equipment qualification, safety checks, documentation) are completed • Lead trial production runs from preparation through execution, and establish how the team tracks, records, and reviews performance data • Identify and resolve commissioning issues on the ground, with the decisiveness and experience to make the right calls in the moment • Oversee scaling and integration of new process equipment, ensuring smooth transitions from pilot to scaled operations Technical Support & Guidance • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers on daily deliverables, troubleshooting, and problem solving • Conduct hazard and feasibility studies; provide on-site troubleshooting as needed • Perform equipment qualification, verifying installation, operation, and maintenance against specifications and industry standards • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies across throughput, energy consumption, and material recovery, and propose practical improvements respectively • Work with suppliers and contractors to evaluate and integrate solutions that improve plant reliability and performance Documentation & Standards • Develop and implement data tracking and monitoring systems to support continuous improvement in plant performance • Lead process documentation and standardisation efforts, ensuring best practices are established and followed • Refine and optimise workflows to enhance efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness Requirements • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field. • 5 - 10 years of hands-on experience in process engineering, plant operations, or production within chemicals, advanced manufacturing, or related industries • Direct experience leading or driving commissioning activities and production trial runs where you have been through this process and understand what it takes from start to end • Strong ability to prepare a team for commissioning: sequencing tasks, defining ownership, and managing execution on the ground • Structured approach to data tracking and performance monitoring during trial runs • Clear communicator who can work effectively with an engineering team, contractors, and senior stakeholders • Comfortable operating in a lean, fast-moving environment where priorities can shift Strong Advantage • Hands-on experience with commercial-scale electrolyser systems: designing, assembling, testing, or operating • Background in electrochemical processes, chlor-alkali, redox flow systems, or fuel cells • Experience adapting process knowledge from adjacent industries to novel or first-of-kind systems • Familiarity with mass balance and OPEX modelling at plant scale • Experience in battery recycling or critical minerals processing Contract Details • Engagement type: Contract with potential for conversion to permanent employment based on performance and mutual fit • Location: Singapore (on-site) • Start date: Immediate
