About this role
The School of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (CCEB) invites applications for the position of Research Fellow. The Research Fellow is required to spearhead a project involving advanced materials and membrane technologies, from materials synthesis, characterization, membrane fabrication, investigation of separation performances, AI-assisted analysis, and presentation of research results. The Research Fellow will take on a significant role in performing experimental work, data analysis, simulation studies, drafting reports and publications, and supporting project-related administrative duties. The candidate is also expected to contribute to the training of graduate and undergraduate students, coordination of collaborations, and presentation of research progress. Key Responsibilities: • Conduct literature review related to materials development, membrane technology, electrodialysis, AI-assisted analysis, and simulation studies. • Design, synthesize, fabricate, and characterize functional materials and membranes. • Perform separation experiments and evaluate membrane performance. • Carry out data analysis, AI-assisted analysis, modelling, and/or simulation studies. • Draft reports and scientific publications. • Train graduate and undergraduate students. • Administrative duties such as purchase of chemicals and consumables, coordination of collaborations, and presentations of research progress. • Obtain quotations to purchase chemicals, consumables, and equipment accessories that cost Draft reports to purchase equipment/materials/consumables that cost >$6k. Job Requirements: • Ph.D. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. • Experience in materials synthesis, characterization, and membrane fabrication. • Knowledge in membrane science, electrodialysis, electrochemical separation, ion transport, or related separation processes. • Familiarity with characterization techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, XPS, BET analysis, zeta potential, contact angle measurement, electrochemical analysis, ion chromatography, ICP-OES/ICP-MS, etc. • Experience or interest in AI-assisted analysis, data-driven materials development, computational modelling, and/or simulation studies. • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and other scientific/data processing software such as Origin, ImageJ, or related software. • Strong research/publication track record and good written and oral communication skills.
