CompanyName: Group of Companies (GWS Living Art, Vidacity etc) Position: Research Intern, Nature-Based Solutions GWS Living Art is a specialist firm pioneering nature-based urban solutions such as vertical green walls to soilless green roofs to redefine how cities integrate living systems into the built environment. We are looking for a curious, proactive, and driven individual to join our research team and contribute to the next generation of urban greening innovations. In this role, you will be embedded in live projects that sit at the crossroads of environmental sustainability, design, and technology. The candidate will help develop, test, and communicate solutions that bring nature back into our cities. This is a hybrid role combining hands-on prototyping and fieldwork with desk-based research, offering exposure to the full arc of a research project from early ideation through to delivery. In this role, you will: Research & Evaluation • Conduct desktop research and primary evaluations to assess the scientific, technical, and commercial feasibility of new research ideas • Perform technical evaluations of research concepts and potential nature-based products, identifying market feasibility and areas for improvement • Collaborate with researchers and partners to generate, challenge, and refine new research directions and concepts Product & Project Development • Support and contribute to active research and development projects centred on nature-based urban solutions, including vertical green systems and built environment applications • Prototype and experiment with new materials, systems, and growing methodologies, translating concepts into tangible, testable outputs • Source and procure materials, plants, substrates, and equipment etc. required for prototyping and research activities Reporting & Communication • Assist in writing research papers, technical reports, and project write-ups that consolidate findings into clear, well-structured narratives • Engage with internal teams, external researchers, and client stakeholders to support ongoing project development and knowledge exchange What we're looking for: • A naturally inquisitive mind with a research-oriented approach to problem-solving, asking good questions and dig for answers • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently as well as contribute effectively within a team • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple commitments reliably and meet deadlines • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for data organisation, documentation, and reporting • Comfortable using Canva or similar tools to present ideas and findings in a visually engaging way • Open to all academic backgrounds and experience levels, what matters most is your attitude, curiosity, and drive What you'll gain: • Hands-on experience working on real, live research projects with tangible environmental impact in the urban landscape • Exposure to research lifecycle from ideation to prototyping • Engagement with experienced, multidisciplinary internal and external team working at the frontier of nature-based urban innovation • Familiarity with emerging technologies and methodologies in green infrastructure and living architecture • A collaborative, curious, and purpose-driven work environment where your ideas are genuinely welcomed
