Responsibilities The Backend Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and secure backend services that power digital products. The role requires expertise in software engineering principles, modern development practices, and cloud-native architecture. Engineers must work in an agile, DevOps-driven environment, ensuring high software quality, reliability, and security. a) Collaborate with Business Analysts (BA) and Product Managers to refine user stories and translate them into technical requirements. b) Work with Quality Assurance (QA) engineers to ensure automated test coverage and proactively fix bugs and defects. c) Partner with DevOps teams to automate build, deployment, and monitoring pipelines. d) Develop and maintain scalable, high-performance APIs and backend services in a cloud-native environment. e) Implement modern software development practices, including TDD, pair programming, and CI/CD. f) Conduct code reviews, enforce security best practices, and ensure software craftsmanship standards. g) Design and document system architecture, ensuring compliance with government security and regulatory standards. h) Excellent written and verbal communication skills to pitch ideas and influence stakeholders. i) End to end experience working with product team to build products. j) Ability to work effectively and independently under pressure and prioritize effectively to meet tight deadlines. k) Computer science, product management related degrees or diplomas are a plus. l) Optimize and improve backend systems for scalability, observability, and reliability. m) Where applicable, contribute to blockchain and smart contract development Experience and Skills Needed 2.1 Technical Skills a) Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Computer or Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or related disciplines. b) Experience with Git and modern branching workflows (GitFlow, trunk-based development). c) Proficiency in modern backend programming languages such as: Shell Scripting, Java, Python, Golang, Node.js. d) Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GoogleCloud). e) f) Familiarity with microservices architecture andevent-driven patterns is a plus (Kafka, RabbitMQ). g) Hands-on experience with containerization andorchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes). h) Experience with CI/CD pipelines (ex. GitHub Actions,GitLab CI,). i) Knowledge of database technologies (ex. PostgreSQL,MySQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis). j) Experience with observability tools (Prometheus,OpenTelemetry, Grafana, ELK stack). k) Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools(Terraform, CloudFormation). Experience with API documentation tools such asSwagger 2.2 Software Engineering Practices a) Experience working in Agile Software Delivery Lifecycleand Practices (ex: Scrum, Kanban) with strong collaboration skills. b) Knowledge of Extreme Programming (XP) practices such asTDD, pair programming, continuous refactoring. c) Strong understanding of test automation frameworks(example: JUnit, PyTest ). d) Adherence to software craftsmanship principles,ensuring clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
