About this role
Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications. We are looking for a Engineer to lead the scale-up of VRFB stack designs from lab and pilot scale to commercial systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and manufacturability. The role bridges R&D, testing, and production to enable smooth transition into large-scale deployment. Key Responsibilities: • Scale VRFB stack designs from prototype to multi-kW and MW-class systems, addressing electrochemical, mechanical, and thermal challenges. • Develop and validate stack architectures, materials, and component interfaces to improve efficiency, durability, and cost. • Plan and execute stack testing programs including performance, lifetime, stress, and failure analysis. • Work closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and automation teams to ensure designs are production-ready. • Support development of test rigs, SOPs, and quality benchmarks for scaled stack validation. • Analyze test data and drive design improvements based on real operating feedback. Job Requirements: • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical or a related field • Hands-on experience with electrochemical systems such as vanadium redox flow batteries or fuel cells • Experience in stack design and assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of electrochemical cells • Strong understanding of electrochemical principles and fluid flow in stacks • Ability to design and execute experiments and analyze performance data • Familiarity with membranes, electrodes, bipolar plates, and sealing materials • Good technical documentation and reporting skills • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
