Job DescriptionThe STEM Programme & Makerspace Support Executive will provide operational, technical, and administrative support for the Junior Outstanding Leaders in Energy for Sustainability (JOULES) Programme and assist in fostering a strong maker culture within the school environment. The role involves managing STEM equipment, maintaining learning spaces, supporting STEM lessons and workshops, and ensuring the effective operation of the JOULES Smart Centre and Makerspace facilities. Key ResponsibilitiesJOULES Programme Support • Prepare, set up, and maintain STEM equipment and devices for lessons, including micro:bit devices, sensors, simple electric circuits, solar panels, m5GO kits, and related peripherals. • Conduct regular equipment checks, troubleshooting, maintenance, and day-to-day operations of the JOULES Smart Centre. • Assist teachers and trainers during STEM lessons and activities to support student learning. • Attend professional development sessions, workshops, and training programmes to stay updated on STEM-related developments. • Support and facilitate STEM workshops, student learning journeys, and competitions where required. • Perform regular stock checks and maintain accurate inventory records of equipment and devices. • Monitor, record, and manage damaged, missing, or defective equipment. • Ensure proper organisation, storage, and upkeep of STEM resources after lessons. • Support procurement planning by consolidating equipment and resource requirements together with staff and students. • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and organisation of the JOULES Smart Centre. Makerspace & Applied Learning Programme (ALP) Support • Supervise students in the safe and responsible use of Makerspace facilities. • Establish and implement safety guidelines, procedures, and access protocols for Makerspace usage. • Support budgeting, resource allocation, and management of Makerspace equipment, software, and materials. • Assist in installation, operation, and maintenance of Makerspace technologies such as:3D PrintersLaser CuttersVirtual Reality (VR) Systems • Ensure equipment safety, maintenance, and operational readiness. • Collaborate with the school’s STEM Programme Committee to support curriculum delivery and STEM initiatives. • Maintain a safe, clean, and organised Makerspace environment. Requirements• Minimum 3 years of relevant working experience in STEM education support, laboratory operations, prototyping environments, Makerspaces, or related technical environments. • Experience handling STEM devices, educational technology, or prototyping equipment will be advantageous. • Familiarity with inventory management and equipment maintenance processes. • Ability to support teachers and students during workshops, STEM activities, and hands-on learning programmes. • Strong organisational and administrative skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, students, and stakeholders. • Basic troubleshooting and technical support skills. • Good communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to maintain a safe and structured learning environment. Qualifications• Polytechnic Diploma, preferably in:EngineeringInformation TechnologyElectronicsMechatronicsComputer EngineeringApplied SciencesSTEM-related disciplines • Candidates without a diploma but possessing substantial relevant experience are also encouraged to apply. Preferred Skills & Knowledge• Knowledge of prototyping, fabrication techniques, manufacturing processes, and material handling. • Experience working with Makerspace technologies and equipment. • Familiarity with STEM education tools and platforms. • Knowledge of safety procedures and operational protocols within workshop or laboratory environments. • Ability to conduct basic STEM workshops or training sessions for students is an advantage. • Passion for STEM education and nurturing innovation among students.
