About this role
A Pastoral Care Officer (PCO) plays a vital role in supporting students who require additional emotional, social, and behavioural guidance. The Services required are set out as follows: 1. Student Emotional & Behavioural Support • First line of support for students • Provides one-on-one pastoral support for students who are anxious, distressed, withdrawn or emotionally overwhelmed • Uses restorative practices, active listening and de-escalation strategies to manage situations constructively • Builds trusting relationships and creates a safe, confidential space for students to share concerns • Promotes positive coping strategies, emotional regulation and resilience 2. Case Management & Well-being Monitoring • Identifies, monitors and supports students who may be vulnerable or at risk (e.g. mental health, social, or family-related concerns) • Maintains regular check-ins and tracks changes in student behaviour, attendance and well-being • Works collaboratively with Year Heads (YH), School Counsellors and Discipline Mistress to ensure coordinated support • Keeps accurate, confidential records of incidents, interventions and student progress 3. Safeguarding & Crisis Intervention • Responds promptly to incidents such as emotional breakdowns, conflicts or aggressive behaviour • De-escalates situations while prioritising the safety and well-being of all students involved • Provides immediate emotional support and helps stabilise students during a crisis 4. Preventive & Well-being Programmes • Plans, conducts or supports Social-emotional learning (SEL) and Peer support initiatives • Supports early intervention efforts to prevent escalation of behavioural or emotional issues • Encourages peer connectedness 5. Family & Stakeholder Engagement • Communicates sensitively with parents/guardians regarding student well-being and behavioural concerns, when needed. • Coordinates with external agencies (e.g. social services, mental health professionals) when additional support is required QualificationsThe Personnel shall minimally possess a Diploma in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Education or a related discipline. Skills • Strong empathy and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with students. • Good communication and active listening skills. • Ability to remain calm, patient, and composed in challenging situations. • Basic conflict resolution and behaviour management skills. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgement. Experience • Prior experience working with children in a primary school, student care, or enrichment setting is preferred. • Experience in student well-being, pastoral care or behavioural support programmes. • Exposure to counselling, mentoring or guiding students with social-emotional needs Contract duration: 5 months (1 July 2026 to 17 November 2026) Working Arrangement • Tentatively 7.15am to 2.45pm, inclusive of 1 hour lunch break, unless otherwise required by the school • Tentatively 6 hours daily during weekdays, excluding weekends, School Holidays and Public Holidays. • May be required to put in additional hours should there be students requiring support beyond working hours, for which he/ she will be paid on an hourly rate for services rendered.
