You will work alongside our experienced Brokers and carry out various tasks as outlined in the description below. The ideal candidate will have some experience within shipbroking, and have strong interpersonal skills, with a driven and self-motivated approach, and the ability to work in a dynamic commercially focused broking environment. What you’ll be doing • Support the day-to-day activities of the Brokers on the Newbuilding desk. • Coordinate opportunities with our Shanghai Newbuilding desk. • Assist with marketing newbuilding opportunities to customers and colleagues, both locally and to other Group offices. • Be aware of the positions and desired strategic directions for each shipyard. • Assist to coordinate the holistic process of a newbuilding project, both pre and post contact signing. • Check through shipbuilding contracts. • Manage internal data flow of key market information. • Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for clients working hand in hand with our Newbuilding desk Analysts in London and Shanghai. • Coordinate with the key global internal broking departments to accurately service customer base. • Build and nurture strong relationships with key shipyards with insight across key builders. • Demonstrate understanding of key technical shipbuilding concepts. • Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant shipbuilding specifications and commercial forms for key shipyards. • Help to field queries and establish and maintain effective relationships internally and externally. • Attend meetings and events where required. • Continue to develop knowledge and expertise in the S&P arena and market space. • Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business. • In time and working hand in hand with senior brokers on the desk, assist with setting up, negotiating, finalising and placing newbuilding contracts for vessels across various asset classes with key ship builders, to maximise the opportunity for customers within prevailing market conditions. Other requirements • A Degree in Ship Science/Naval Engineering, or a related discipline will be highly regarded • Some previous experience within shipping or broking companies is advantageous • Personable and engaging, able to build strong relationships • Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), able to confidently liaise with people at all levels • Fluency in Mandarin is required to liaise with Mandarin speaking clients. • Commercially minded, and client focused • Proactive, and looks for opportunities to add value • Numerate and excellent presentation skills • Strong problem-solving ability, and able to use initiative • Self-motivated and able to work to deadlines • Confident and able to work well under pressure, with ability to adapt • Strong attention to detail and focus on accuracy • Strong MS office skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams)
