WILDLIFE RESCUE OFFICER ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Wildlife Rescue Officer to join our operations team. This position requires responding to wildlife rescue activations and safely handling, transporting, and relocating animals. The role demands physical fitness, animal expertise, and the ability to work flexibly across various shift schedules to support emergency wildlife rescue operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Wildlife Capture and Handling • Safely trap, handle, and relocate wild animals including reptiles, birds, small mammals, and large mammals (comprehensive training provided) • Apply humane handling techniques and animal welfare best practices • Assess animal behavior and determine appropriate capture/restraint methods Animal Transportation and Removal • Conduct humane animal removal operations in compliance with safety and animal welfare standards • Transport animals using appropriate equipment and vehicles • Ensure animal comfort and safety during transit • Maintain detailed transport logs and documentation Emergency Response Operations • Respond promptly to wildlife rescue calls via designated hotline • Assess rescue situations and determine appropriate intervention strategies • Ensure timely and appropriate action to address wildlife emergencies • Manage time-sensitive rescue scenarios effectively Record Keeping and Administration Maintain accurate and detailed records of all rescue cases Complete transport logs and incident reports Document animal species, locations, condition, and outcomes Inter-Agency Coordination • Collaborate with relevant authorities (NParks, AVA, police, municipal services) • Facilitate safe animal transfers and releases with partner organizations • Communicate rescue updates to stakeholders and involved parties • Coordinate multi-agency responses when necessary Operational Flexibility • Perform shift work including afternoons, nights, weekends, and public holidays • Maintain on-standby availability for emergency rescue activations • Respond to calls outside regular working hours when required • Adapt to varying operational demands and priority situations Centre Operations Support • Assist with daily wildlife rescue centre operations • Maintain and inspect rescue equipment and vehicles • Support facility upkeep and equipment maintenance • Perform other assigned duties as required REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience & Training • Minimum 1 year of experience in domestic or wild animal handling (preferred) • Demonstrated competency in safe animal restraint and handling techniques • Ability to work calmly and professionally with stressed or injured animals Driving & Licensing • Valid Class 3 driver's licence • Minimum 1 year of driving experience • Clean driving record and ability to operate vehicles responsibly Physical Requirements • Physically fit and capable of outdoor work in variable weather conditions • Comfortable handling diverse animal species (tortoises, turtles, lizards, snakes, mammals, boars, birds) • Able to lift and carry heavy equipment and animals • Willingness to work in challenging environmental conditions Work Schedule Commitment • Willing to work shift patterns including afternoons, nights, weekends, and public holidays • Available for on-call emergency activations • Flexible availability for operational needs • Reliable attendance and punctuality Communication Skills • Basic proficiency in English (written and verbal) • Clear communication via WhatsApp, phone, and email for coordination • Ability to provide clear updates and reports to team members and authorities • Professional communication with the public and stakeholders Professional Attributes • Confident, calm demeanor when handling animals and engaging with the public • Reliable and responsible approach to duties and safety protocols • Strong work ethic;
