About this role
ObjectiveThe Youth Worker will be deployed to support Canopy, the school’s after-school engagement centre. The primary objective is to maintain a physical presence at the Canopy Room, engage students on a day-to-day basis, and plan and execute structured programmes to foster positive student development and school connectedness. Key Responsibilities & Scope of Services1. Canopy Management & Daily Engagement• Maintain a consistent physical presence in the Canopy Room during stipulated hours to engage and build positive relationships with students. • Work closely with the school's Gear Up Committee teachers to ensure smooth operations. • Establish and manage a system to track the loaning and return of games/items by students. • Uphold ground rules and maintain firmness while remaining approachable, warm, and professional. 2. Programme Planning & Implementation• Collaborate with teachers to design, plan, and implement targeted workshops and programmes for smaller groups of students requiring higher after-school supervision. • Equip students with essential socio-emotional skills through targeted centre activities. • Foster a strong sense of school belonging and connectedness utilizing the centre's unique environment. • Act as an additional staff chaperone/support member during external Learning Journeys or excursions. 3. Student Needs Assessment & Intervention• Observe student behavior and accurately identify the key needs of targeted individuals. • Utilise identification and screening tools to assess student needs when required. • Participate in discussions with the student management team, teachers, and school leaders regarding intervention plans for specific students. 4. School Collaboration & Administration• Provide regular and relevant feedback on student progress to school stakeholders. • Offer consultation and insights to school teachers regarding student needs and behavioral challenges. • Provide administrative support to teachers for matters relating directly to Canopy programmes and tracking. Working Hours & ScheduleThe work schedule is tied to the prevailing school timetable, and payment is calculated based on actual hours worked. Services are generally not required on Saturdays, Sundays, gazetted public holidays, and school holidays (unless explicitly requested with a 4-week notice). • Afternoon Shift (Firm Requirement): * Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday: 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM (3 hours/day) • Thursday: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM (3 hours/day) • Morning Shift (Optional / Additional Requirement): * Monday to Thursday: 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM (2.5 hours/day) • Note: If a candidate is selected for both shifts, the same person must cover both the morning and afternoon schedules. Job Requirements (Qualifications & Skills)Preferred Qualifications• Education: Minimum of a Diploma in Social Work, Youth Work, or a related social sciences/educational discipline (equivalent experience in youth work will also be considered). Experience & Competencies• Minimum of 1 year of experience in social work or youth work. • Proven track record in designing, planning, and facilitating group programmes and workshops for students. • Strong skills in rapport building, effective interpersonal communication, and creative problem-solving. • Competency in collaborating professionally with school staff, community partners, and external stakeholders. • Language: Preferably bilingual to effectively communicate with a diverse student demographic
