Amazon Singapore Internship Guide
Amazon's Singapore office spans AWS, Amazon.com e-commerce operations for Southeast Asia, and a large engineering hub developing global products. Software engineering and technical programme management internships are the most common, with Amazon's unique Leadership Principles forming the backbone of every interview. This guide prepares you for every step.
Amazon Singapore: Internship Guide
Amazon entered Singapore in 2017 with the launch of Amazon.sg, and today the country serves as a major hub for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Asia Pacific operations, Amazon.com's Southeast Asia commercial team, and a growing engineering centre working on global products including Alexa, Prime Video, Fulfillment Technology, and AWS services. AWS Singapore operates data centres locally as part of its ap-southeast-1 region, making Singapore critical infrastructure for the company. For students, this means internships at the intersection of global technology leadership and one of the fastest-growing markets in the world.
Key Internship Programmes
Software Development Engineer (SDE) Intern — The flagship twelve-week programme for CS and Computer Engineering students. Interns join a specific team, receive a mentor (Amazonians call them "bar raisers" in a different context), and are responsible for a defined deliverable.
AWS Solutions Architect Intern — Roles helping AWS customers design and implement cloud architectures. Strong fit for students with both technical and customer-facing strengths.
Technical Programme Manager (TPM) Intern — For students with project management and engineering cross-over skills. Involves defining project requirements, managing dependencies, and delivering technical outcomes.
Amazon Business Analyst Intern — For data-oriented business students. Projects in supply chain analytics, pricing optimisation, and customer behaviour analysis.
AWS Go-To-Market (GTM) Intern — Commercial roles focused on driving AWS adoption among Singapore and ASEAN enterprise customers.
Roles Available
| Role | Division | Skills |
|---|---|---|
| SDE Intern | Engineering | Java, Python, C++, distributed systems |
| AWS Solutions Architect Intern | AWS | Cloud architecture, networking, customer advisory |
| TPM Intern | Engineering / Operations | Project management, systems thinking |
| Business Analyst Intern | Various | SQL, Python, analytics, Excel |
| AWS GTM Intern | AWS Commercial | Sales, cloud knowledge, communication |
Salary & Allowance
| Role | Monthly Allowance (SGD) |
|---|---|
| SDE Intern | SGD 7,000 – 10,000 |
| AWS Solutions Architect Intern | SGD 5,500 – 8,000 |
| TPM Intern | SGD 5,000 – 7,000 |

Application Process & Timeline
- Online Application — amazon.jobs. Open year-round with peak hiring August–December.
- Online Assessment — Work Style Assessment (situational judgement aligned to Leadership Principles) and a coding challenge for SDE roles (Amazon-style OA: two algorithmic problems in 70 minutes).
- Phone Screen — 45 minutes. SDE: one coding problem plus LP (Leadership Principle) questions. Non-engineering: LP-focused behavioural.
- Virtual Loop (Final Round) — Four to five 45-minute interviews in one day. SDE: two coding + one system design + two LP. Non-SDE: case + multiple LP interviews.
- Offer — One to two weeks post loop.
Tips to Get Selected
- Master the Leadership Principles (LPs). Amazon's 16 Leadership Principles (Customer Obsession, Ownership, Invent and Simplify, etc.) underpin every interview question. Prepare two to three STAR stories for each LP, with quantified outcomes. The most frequently tested at internship level: Customer Obsession, Ownership, Dive Deep, and Deliver Results.
- Practise the OA on time. Amazon's online assessment gives 70 minutes for two algorithmic problems. Common patterns: arrays, hash maps, two pointers, sliding window, and graph BFS/DFS. Solve under time pressure on LeetCode.
- For system design, study how to design a URL shortener, a key-value store, or a notification service. Amazon expects conceptual system design even from intern candidates.
- For AWS roles, achieve at least the AWS Cloud Practitioner certification before applying. It is free to study and takes twenty hours. The Solutions Architect Associate is even better.
- Research Amazon Singapore specifically. Know Amazon.sg's market position, AWS Singapore data centres, and specific AWS services that Singapore enterprises use heavily (GovCloud interest, data residency requirements, etc.).
What the Internship Is Like
Amazon Singapore interns describe a high-ownership, results-driven experience. SDE interns are expected to deliver a working project by week twelve — Amazon's "working backwards" culture means the end customer outcome is defined first and the engineering solution is built to meet it. Interns write design documents, review them with senior engineers, and own their project end-to-end.
The LP culture is omnipresent — team discussions explicitly reference leadership principles, and intern performance is evaluated on both technical output and LP demonstrations. The culture can feel intense for students accustomed to more directive working environments.
Amazon's intern programme includes all-hands sessions, an "Innovation Day" where interns pitch ideas to senior leaders, and access to AWS certification vouchers. Benefits include subsidised food and transportation.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Amazon Singapore converts approximately 55–70% of SDE interns. Full-time offers are for New Grad SDE (L4) roles. AWS intern conversion rates have been trending higher as Amazon accelerates its Singapore engineering investments. Non-technical intern conversions vary more widely by team performance and headcount availability.
