Carousell Internship Guide
Carousell is Singapore's homegrown recommerce marketplace, now spanning seven markets with over 250 million listings. As a grown-up startup with Series D funding and a unicorn valuation, Carousell offers internships that combine real product ownership with the mentorship of a more mature engineering organisation. Roles span engineering, product, data, and growth.
Carousell: Internship Guide
Carousell was founded in Singapore in 2012 by NUS students and has grown into Southeast Asia's largest recommerce marketplace, serving buyers and sellers across Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Bangladesh. The platform hosts over 250 million listings in categories including electronics, fashion, vehicles, property, and jobs. Carousell has raised over $500 million in funding and operates at genuine tech-company scale while maintaining a startup culture. For Singapore students, Carousell is a rare opportunity to intern at a local unicorn with global ambitions and a culture that actively develops early-career talent.
Key Internship Programmes

Application Process & Timeline
- Online Application — carousell.careers. Summer applications open January–March. December applications open September.
- Screening — Short CV review and a take-home assignment for some roles (e.g., a PM brief, a data analysis task, or a short design challenge).
- Interview(s) — One to two rounds. Technical for SWE; case and portfolio review for PM and design; data challenge walkthrough for data roles.
- Offer — One to two weeks after final interview.
Tips to Get Selected
- Use Carousell before applying. This seems obvious but many candidates do not. Buy or sell something. Experience the onboarding flow, the listing process, and the trust signals. Your ability to describe the product from a user's perspective impresses interviewers significantly.
- For SWE, Carousell's backend is Go-heavy. Familiarity with Go or a willingness to learn quickly (demonstrated by a small Go project) is valuable.
- For PM roles, prepare a feature improvement proposal for Carousell. Identify a real problem (e.g., trust signals for high-value item buyers), propose a solution, and structure your thinking using a standard PM framework (user problem, hypothesis, success metric, trade-offs).
- Show mission alignment. Carousell's mission is "inspiring the world to start selling, and to make recommerce the norm." Being able to articulate why recommerce matters — sustainability, accessibility, circular economy — resonates with the team.
- Apply for both summer and December. Carousell's smaller size means both cohorts receive similar quality of mentorship and project ownership.
What the Internship Is Like
Carousell internships are characterised by genuine ownership. Unlike large corporations where intern projects may be isolated from production, Carousell interns regularly ship features to production and can track the impact on user metrics. The culture is informal, collaborative, and values direct communication.
SWE interns work in small squads with defined sprint commitments. PM interns participate in full sprint cycles. The office in Duo Tower, Singapore has an open layout with a mix of collaborative spaces and focused work areas. Company lunches are held weekly.
Work hours are reasonable — typically 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. — with some flexibility during sprint delivery. Carousell's culture does not glorify overwork, which is a genuine differentiator from some tech companies.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Carousell converts approximately 40–55% of interns. Full-time roles are available across all tracks, though headcount depends on funding cycles and business growth. Interns who perform well and are in their final year typically receive direct offers. Earlier-year interns are often invited back for a repeat internship.
