Macquarie Singapore Internship Guide
Macquarie Group's Singapore office is one of Asia's leading infrastructure advisory and asset management firms, with a strong presence in commodities, equities, and private markets. The Summer Analyst Programme is highly competitive and particularly attractive to students interested in infrastructure, energy transition, and alternative investments.
Macquarie Singapore: Internship Guide
Macquarie Group entered Singapore in 1994 and today the Singapore office serves as Macquarie's Asia Pacific hub for several business lines: Macquarie Capital (advisory and principal investments), Macquarie Asset Management (infrastructure and real assets funds), Macquarie's Commodities and Global Markets division, and its growing securities business. Macquarie is best known globally for infrastructure investment — the "Macquarie Infrastructure model" is studied in finance programmes worldwide — and Singapore is a key base for ASEAN and broader Asia infrastructure transactions.

Tips to Get Selected
- Deep-dive on infrastructure finance. Macquarie Capital Singapore works on toll roads, airports, energy assets, and digital infrastructure across ASEAN. Being able to discuss how infrastructure assets are valued (regulated asset base, DCF with long-duration cash flows) and naming a recent Macquarie ASEAN transaction is a strong signal.
- Know the energy transition theme. Macquarie has a large green energy investment portfolio through its GIG (Green Investment Group). Showing interest in renewable energy project finance, carbon markets, or battery storage deals demonstrates sector alignment.
- Prepare for deal-structuring questions. Macquarie Capital is known for asking case-style questions about deal structures: "How would you structure the acquisition of an airport?" Practice thinking through equity vs. debt, regulatory considerations, and exit strategies.
- Network through the Springboard event. First-year students should target Macquarie's diversity insight day in March. The conversion rate from event to summer offer is among the highest of any Singapore bank's first-year programme.
- Show ownership mindset. Macquarie has a distinctive "owner-operator" culture where employees act with entrepreneurial accountability. Citing personal examples of taking initiative, owning outcomes, and learning from failure resonates deeply.
What the Internship Is Like
Macquarie Singapore's intern experience is genuinely distinctive. The owner-operator culture means interns are given real responsibility quickly — a Macquarie Capital intern might build the project finance model for an actual bid process. Asset Management interns may present analysis on portfolio assets to the fund management team.
Macquarie runs a strong intern social programme and a formal mentorship structure. The culture is described as direct, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented. Hours are long in Macquarie Capital but the work quality is exceptional.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Macquarie Singapore converts approximately 65–75% of Summer Analysts. Given the firm's owner-operator culture, strong performers who demonstrate initiative and genuine deal interest are almost always retained. Full-time Analyst roles start in February or July depending on the business group.
