OCBC Bank Internship Guide
OCBC Bank is Singapore's second-largest local bank and one of the most active internship hirers in the country, taking on hundreds of interns each year across banking, technology, and operations. The OCBC Talent Internship Programme is well-structured with real project ownership and a high conversion rate. This guide covers all you need to know.
OCBC Bank: Internship Guide
Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) was founded in 1932 and today is the second-largest financial services group in Southeast Asia by assets. Headquartered at OCBC Centre in Robinson Road, the bank serves retail, corporate, private banking, and wealth management clients. For Singapore students, OCBC is one of the most accessible top-tier internship targets — the firm recruits heavily from NUS, NTU, SMU, SUTD, SIT, and even polytechnics for certain tracks.
Key Internship Programmes
OCBC Talent Internship Programme (TIP) — The flagship programme running May–August (twelve weeks) and December–January (eight weeks) for both undergraduates and diploma students. Covers all divisions.
OCBC Global Treasury (GT) Internship — Specifically for students interested in markets, FX trading, and fixed income. Highly sought after and smaller in cohort.

Application Process & Timeline
- Online Application — careers.ocbc.com. Summer applications open January–March; December intake opens in September.
- Online Assessments — Numerical reasoning and personality assessments.
- Video Interview — Short pre-recorded answers on Hirevue or similar platform.
- Panel Interview — One to two rounds with hiring managers. Competency-based questions focused on OCBC's core values: integrity, respect, responsibility, and forward-thinking.
- Offer — Typically within two to three weeks of final interview.
OCBC also recruits via campus career fairs at NUS, NTU, and SMU, where managers interview on the spot at booths.
Tips to Get Selected
- Apply for the December/January intake. Competition is lower than the summer intake and the programme is equally well-regarded. Many students secure OCBC internships in December, converting to summer offers or full-time roles.
- Research OCBC's digital strategy. OCBC has heavily invested in its digital banking transformation, AI credit scoring, and open banking initiatives. Showing knowledge of OCBC's "beyond banking" strategy and its digital ecosystem earns points in interviews.
- Know OCBC's regional footprint. OCBC operates in twelve countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, China, and Greater China via OCBC Wing Hang. Frame answers with regional ambition, not just Singapore.
- Highlight any banking or finance-adjacent work experience. Even a stint at a financial advisory firm, insurance company, or fintech startup is valued.
- For technology roles, OCBC values cloud certifications (AWS, Azure). Completing a free-tier AWS certification before applying is a visible differentiator.
What the Internship Is Like
OCBC runs one of the most structured intern programmes among Singapore's local banks. Interns receive a formal onboarding week, are assigned a buddy, and have a mid-internship review at week six. The bank runs "Intern Day" sessions covering topics like financial planning, leadership, and digital trends.
Project ownership is genuine. Technology interns typically join a product squad and contribute features to production applications. Corporate banking interns may support deal origination for an actual client mandate. The culture is collegial and feedback is given openly.
Working hours are reasonable by financial services standards — expect 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. most days, with occasional late nights for Global Treasury during market volatility.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
OCBC converts approximately 50–60% of interns to full-time roles through its Management Associate Programme (MAP) or direct analyst hires. Interns who perform well are often invited to apply directly to the MAP programme without going through the general recruitment process. The MAP is a two-year rotational programme that feeds OCBC's leadership pipeline.
