Shopee Internship Guide
Shopee, the e-commerce arm of Sea Group, is Southeast Asia's largest online marketplace and one of Singapore's most active internship hirers. With a technology-first culture and operations spanning seven ASEAN markets, Shopee internships offer genuine ownership of products used by hundreds of millions of people. This guide covers all roles, pay, and what to expect.
Shopee: Internship Guide
Shopee was launched by Sea Group in 2015 and rapidly became Southeast Asia's largest e-commerce platform by gross merchandise value (GMV). Headquartered in Sea's One-North campus in Singapore, Shopee employs thousands of engineers, product managers, data scientists, and operations professionals working on a platform that serves over 200 million users across seven markets: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Shopee has also expanded to Brazil, making it a genuinely global product company with deep ASEAN roots. For students, this means internships that combine startup velocity with the scale of a publicly listed global company.

- Online Assessment — For SWE roles: coding challenge (LeetCode medium difficulty). For business roles: a written case study.

- Cross-Functional Interview — With hiring manager and team lead. Product and operations candidates face case-style discussions.

Tips to Get Selected
- Know Shopee's core markets. Shopee's growth is driven by Indonesia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Showing awareness of how Shopee's product differs across markets (e.g., cash-on-delivery dominance in Indonesia, social commerce in Vietnam) demonstrates regional depth.
- For SWE, Shopee's backend is primarily Go and Java. Demonstrating proficiency in either, and understanding microservices architecture at a conceptual level, is valuable.
- For Data Science, Shopee's data team is large and works on high-impact problems: pricing elasticity, supply-demand matching, and fraud. Prepare to discuss a data project where you made a business recommendation from an analysis.
- Show speed and ownership. Shopee's culture is famously fast-paced. Use the word "shipped" in your interview answers when describing projects. Show that you delivered tangible outcomes, not just processes.
- Apply for the December intake. Less competition and equally good exposure.
What the Internship Is Like
Shopee internships are widely described as high-velocity and high-ownership. Interns are expected to contribute meaningfully from week two. SWE interns contribute to production services (Shopee's apps serve hundreds of millions of users, so code quality standards are real). PM interns participate in full product sprints and may present to senior leadership.
The culture is ambitious, collaborative, and driven by data. Every decision is expected to be data-supported. Free daily lunches at Shopee's canteen and a vibrant campus social culture make the environment enjoyable alongside the demands.
Working hours are longer than traditional employers — expect 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. as a normal day during busy periods. Shopee is not the right internship for those seeking a light experience.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Shopee converts approximately 45–60% of interns through its Shopee Graduate Programme (SGP) or direct new-graduate hires. The SGP is a structured rotational programme with strong training and regional mobility opportunities.
