Singapore Airlines: Internship Guide
Singapore Airlines was incorporated in 1972 following the dissolution of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines, and today it is the national carrier of Singapore, serving over 100 destinations across 37 countries. The airline is publicly listed on the SGX and majority-owned by Temasek. SIA has consistently won the Skytrax World's Best Airline award multiple times and is known for industry-leading cabin service, product innovation, and operational excellence. Tips to Get Selected
- Know aviation economics. SIA is a business first. Understanding revenue management in airlines (load factors, yield management, fare buckets), how an airline manages fuel hedging, and what alliance membership (Star Alliance) means for revenue are all strong conversation topics.
- Research SIA's digital transformation. SIA has invested heavily in technology: KrisFlyer's digital loyalty ecosystem, its AI-powered disruption management tools, and its collaboration with Microsoft on Azure for aviation analytics. Referencing specific initiatives shows current awareness.
- For Revenue Management, show strong analytical skills. The Revenue Management function at SIA is quantitatively demanding, using sophisticated pricing models. Students with economics, statistics, or data science backgrounds have an advantage.
- Show genuine passion for aviation. SIA interviewers are often lifelong aviation enthusiasts. Knowing the difference between a 777-9 and an A350-1000, understanding SIA's fleet renewal strategy, or being able to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on long-haul aviation demand recovery signals authentic interest.
- Apply early. SIA's intern programme is competitive and well-regarded. Applications open in December — do not wait until February.
What the Internship Is Like
SIA internships are well-structured and offer genuine exposure to a globally complex operation. Commercial interns may contribute to pricing analysis for specific routes, participate in sales call reviews, or analyse marketing campaign performance. Technology interns work on real product development within SIA's digital ecosystem.
The culture at SIA is professional, service-oriented, and quality-driven. The firm's famous service excellence culture permeates even corporate functions — attention to detail, customer centricity, and presentation standards are embedded values. Senior leaders are accessible for interns through the formal speaker series and mentorship programme.
Working hours are typically 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with some flexibility by division.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
SIA converts approximately 35–50% of interns. Full-time roles are available through SIA's graduate programmes in Commercial, Technology, and Operations. Engineering graduates may be offered positions at SIAEC. SIA's graduate programmes include international exposure and are highly valued by aviation employers globally.
