Stripe Singapore Internship Guide
Stripe's Singapore office serves as the payments company's Asia Pacific headquarters, housing engineering, product, and commercial teams building the economic infrastructure of the internet. Internship roles in software engineering, data science, and business operations are highly competitive but offer exceptional technical depth, strong mentorship, and some of the highest intern pay in Singapore.
Stripe Singapore: Internship Guide
Stripe, the global payments infrastructure company, opened its Singapore office in 2018 and has made it a key hub for Asia Pacific expansion. Singapore-based Stripe teams work on payment processing for ASEAN merchants, the Stripe API integrations used by millions of businesses globally, risk and fraud systems, and local payment method integrations (PayNow, GrabPay, and more). With a $65+ billion valuation and payments infrastructure processing hundreds of billions of dollars annually, Stripe offers interns the rare combination of startup culture and hyperscale technical challenges. For Singapore students, a Stripe internship is one of the most prestigious technology credentials you can earn.
Key Internship Programmes
Software Engineering Intern — The flagship programme. Twelve weeks. Stripe hires interns into specific teams: Payments, Risk & Fraud, Infrastructure, Developer Experience, APAC local payments, and more. Each intern ships real product changes.
Data Science / Machine Learning Intern — For students with strong ML and statistics backgrounds. Projects in fraud detection, pricing optimisation, and payment success rate improvement.
Business Operations Intern — For analytically strong business students. Projects in APAC market expansion, merchant analytics, and operational efficiency.
Stripe APAC Commercial Intern — Sales and account management roles focused on onboarding and growing APAC merchants.

Application Process & Timeline
- Online Application — stripe.com/jobs. Opens August–November for summer. Stripe's hiring volume is relatively small, so applications fill quickly.
- Recruiter Screen — 30-minute call. Background, interest in Stripe, and interview scheduling.
- Technical Screen (SWE) — One 60-minute coding interview. Stripe uses a conversational code review format — often asking you to write code in any language while explaining your thought process, rather than a pure LeetCode problem.
- Technical Loop — Two to three additional coding interviews and a system design discussion. Stripe's system design questions are payments-domain-specific (e.g., design a payment routing system, design an idempotency layer).
- Offer — One to two weeks after loop.
Tips to Get Selected
- Learn about payments infrastructure deeply. Stripe's interview process rewards genuine curiosity about payments. Understand how card networks work (Visa/Mastercard interchange, issuing banks, acquiring banks), what idempotency means in API design, and how payment retries and failure handling work. Stripe's blog (stripe.com/blog) and engineering posts are excellent preparation.
- Know Stripe's APAC local payment strategy. Stripe has invested heavily in integrating APAC local payment methods: PayNow (Singapore), PromptPay (Thailand), PayID (Australia), and more. Understanding this strategy signals genuine APAC awareness.
- Prepare for Stripe's code review interview format. Unlike many companies that use LeetCode competitive-style problems, Stripe often gives candidates a partially written programme and asks them to complete, debug, or improve it. Practise reading other people's code and explaining changes clearly.
- Study Stripe's API design philosophy. Stripe's API is considered one of the best-designed APIs in the industry. Reading Stripe's API documentation and understanding why certain design decisions were made (versioning, idempotency keys, expandable objects) is excellent preparation.
- Apply early and be specific. Stripe Singapore has a small intern cohort (typically twenty to forty per year across all roles). Be specific about which team you want to join and why in your application.
What the Internship Is Like
Stripe internships are characterised by extraordinary technical depth and a culture of rigorous thinking. SWE interns are paired with a senior engineer, given a project with real business impact, and expected to ship code to production by week eight. Stripe's culture of writing ("Stripe is a writing company") means interns write design documents, project proposals, and retrospectives — communication clarity is as valued as coding skill.
The Singapore office culture is informal, intellectually driven, and globally connected. Interns attend company-wide meetings, access internal engineering talks (some by the founders), and can experiment with Stripe's full API ecosystem on their own projects.
Benefits include company meals, learning and development budgets, and access to Stripe's internal payments sandbox for personal projects. Working hours are self-directed but typically intense — nine to ten hours per day with deep focus blocks.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Stripe Singapore converts approximately 55–70% of SWE interns. Full-time offers are for L3 Software Engineer roles. Stripe's full-time hiring is highly competitive globally, but interns who have demonstrated product ownership and cultural alignment convert at high rates.
