Temasek Internship Guide
Temasek is Singapore's sovereign investment company with a portfolio of over SGD 380 billion spanning technology, financial services, telecommunications, media, and real estate globally. The Temasek Internship Programme is one of the most prestigious in Singapore, offering rare exposure to long-term investment thinking, portfolio management, and global deal-making at a sovereign-wealth scale.
Temasek: Internship Guide
Temasek Holdings was incorporated in 1974 to manage Singapore's state-owned assets, and today it is a global investment company managing a portfolio of over SGD 380 billion across Asia, the Americas, and Europe. Temasek invests across the full lifecycle — from early-stage venture capital (through Vertex Holdings) to listed equities (Singapore Airlines, DBS, Singtel) and private markets. The firm employs approximately 900 professionals globally, with the majority based in Singapore. Because of its relatively small headcount and massive assets under management, Temasek's internship is one of the most competitive — and most enriching — in Singapore.
Key Internship Programmes
Temasek Internship Programme (TIP) — Eight to twelve weeks, running June–August and December–January. Roles span investment analysis, portfolio management support, enterprise development, and corporate functions.
Investment Internship — The most sought-after track. Interns support deal teams in investment analysis, sector deep-dives, and due diligence for new investments.
Enterprise Development Internship — Roles supporting Temasek's enterprise development work — helping portfolio companies build capabilities and execute strategic initiatives.
Sustainability / ESG Internship — As Temasek has committed to net-zero emissions by 2050 and halve its net carbon footprint by 2030, this track works on ESG integration, climate risk analysis, and sustainability reporting.

Application Process & Timeline
- Online Application — temasek.com.sg/careers. Opens October–January for summer. Temasek's process is competitive and selective — the firm hires approximately thirty to fifty interns per cycle.
- Application Review — Resume and academic transcript screening. Grade threshold is generally First Class or high GPA equivalent.
- Interview(s) — Two to three rounds with Investment Associates and VPs. Competency, motivation, and investment/analytical discussion. Investment track candidates should be prepared to discuss a sector thesis or a stock they would buy.
- Offer — Two to four weeks after final interview.
Tips to Get Selected
- Develop a sector thesis. Temasek's investment team works on decade-long thematic investments (digitisation, sustainable living, future of consumption, longer lifespans). Prepare a structured ten-minute investment thesis on a sector or company that aligns with Temasek's themes. For example: Why will Southeast Asian digital financial services grow? What is the investment case for a specific green energy company?
- Know Temasek's portfolio deeply. Temasek publishes its Annual Report and Stewardship Report online. Read recent editions to understand its portfolio construction, performance, and strategic priorities.
- Demonstrate long-term thinking. Temasek's investment horizon is generational — it refers to its investment approach as "investing for tomorrow." Show that you think beyond quarterly earnings, considering long-term secular trends and sustainability implications.
- Show quantitative aptitude. Investment analysis at Temasek involves financial modelling, valuation, and scenario analysis. Comfort with DCF, comparable company analysis, and private market valuation methods is expected.
- Network through Temasek-sponsored events. Temasek co-organises the Ecosperity conference (sustainability), the Asia Tech x Singapore summit, and various finance seminars where staff are accessible.
What the Internship Is Like
Temasek internships are genuinely distinctive. Investment interns work alongside deal professionals on active transactions — this could mean building parts of a financial model for a new investment or contributing to due diligence for a follow-on round in a portfolio company. The work is substantive and the exposure is unique: few other organisations give undergraduates access to sovereign-level investment decisions.
The culture at Temasek is intellectual, values-driven, and long-term oriented. The organisation's "T-shaped" employee model (deep expertise plus broad curiosity) means interns are encouraged to explore beyond their immediate work. Seminars, external speakers, and cross-functional learning are regular features.
Work hours are reasonable by investment standards — typically 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., with heavier periods during deal cycles.
Return Offers & Full-Time Conversion
Temasek converts approximately 40–55% of interns. Full-time roles are Investment Analysts or Enterprise Development Associates. Given the small team size, each full-time hire at Temasek is significant. Strong interns are typically offered positions and fast-tracked onto Temasek's development rotational programme.
