DATA CENTRE OPERATIONS SUPPORT ENGINEER

ROLESUMMARY The Data Centre Operations Support Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation, monitoring, and maintenance of data centre infrastructure, including servers, storage, and network components. The role focuses on uptime, physical infrastructure management, and operational support within mission-critical and regulated environments. KEYRESPONSIBILITIES · Monitor and manage data centre infrastructure including servers, storage, and network equipment. · Perform routine checks on power, cooling, rack space, and environmental conditions. · Support installation, configuration, and decommissioning of hardware (rack & stack, cabling). · Provide L1/L2 support for infrastructure incidents and service requests. ·  Coordinate with vendors for hardware maintenance, replacements, and support activities. · Manage data centre accesscontrol, asset tracking, and inventory management. · Perform backup media handling, tape management, and storage operations (if applicable). · Support high availability(HA) and disaster recovery (DR) activities and drills. · Maintain logs, reports, and operational dashboards for data centre activities. · Ensure adherence to SLAs, operational procedures, and safety standards. · Assist in capacity planning, space optimization, and infrastructure audits. · Maintain documentation including layouts, asset registers, and SOPs. TECHNICALSKILLS & TOOLS · Infrastructure: Servers, storage (SAN/NAS), racks, cabling, power systems (UPS) · Operating Systems (Basic):Linux/Unix, Windows Server · Networking (Basic): TCP/IP, patching, switches, connectivity checks · Monitoring Tools: DCIMtools, Nagios, SolarWinds (basic) · ITSM Tools: ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira · Hardware Handling: Rack& stack, cable management, hardware diagnostics SECURITY& COMPLIANCE · Ensure physical security controls and authorized data centre access. · Follow operational and safety standards for data centre environments. · Support compliance with ISO27001 and audit requirements. · Maintain asset tracking and secure handling of equipment and media. QUALIFICATIONS& EXPERIENCE · Degree/Diploma in IT, Electronics, or related field. · 2–5 years of experience indata centre operations or infrastructure support. · Experience in 24x7operations environments preferred. · Strong coordination, troubleshooting, and documentation skills. PREFERRED(GOOD TO HAVE) · Experience with DCIM tools and structured cabling standards. · Knowledge of data centre standards (TIA-942, Uptime Institute basics). · Exposure to cloud-integrated or hybrid data centre environments. · Experience in regulated or government environments.
