Key Responsibilities• Administer and maintain IBM DB2 databases on z/OS platforms, ensuring high availability, performance, and operational stability of business-critical applications. • Perform database performance monitoring and tuning activities, including SQL optimization, access path analysis, buffer pool tuning, tablespace management, RUNSTATS, REORG, COPY, and other DB2 utility operations. • Review, analyse, and optimise complex SQL statements developed by application teams to improve query efficiency, reduce resource consumption, and meet performance service levels. • Design and implement database objects including tablespaces, databases, tables, indexes, views, aliases, and referential integrity structures to support application development and enhancement initiatives. • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents involving SQLCODE errors, locking and concurrency issues, deadlocks, database object failures, storage constraints, and application performance degradation. • Support database change implementation activities throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including object creation, schema modifications, migration planning, deployment validation, and production releases. • Execute database backup, recovery, restoration, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure data protection and business continuity requirements are met. • Manage database capacity planning activities by monitoring storage utilisation, growth trends, and system resource consumption to support future business demands. • Collaborate with application development, infrastructure, and support teams to provide technical guidance on DB2 database standards, SQL coding best practices, and performance optimisation methodologies. • Support testing activities by performing database refreshes, data extraction, data masking, test data preparation, and database validation during SIT, UAT, and production implementation cycles. • Maintain database security controls, user access management, and audit compliance requirements in accordance with organisational policies and regulatory standards. • Prepare and maintain operational documentation, database configuration records, recovery procedures, technical runbooks, and support knowledge repositories. Requirements• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline. • Minimum 8 years of hands-on experience administering IBM DB2 databases in large-scale enterprise or mainframe environments. • Strong expertise in DB2 for z/OS administration, performance tuning, database monitoring, SQL optimisation, backup and recovery processes. • Proven experience with DB2 utilities including RUNSTATS, REORG, COPY, LOAD, UNLOAD, CHECK utilities, and database maintenance activities. • Experience supporting database deployments and migrations across Development, SIT, UAT, and Production environments. • Strong understanding of IBM Mainframe technologies including JCL (Job Control Language), VSAM datasets, catalog management, and storage concepts. • Experience with database performance analysis tools, monitoring solutions, and incident management processes. • Knowledge of disaster recovery planning, database restoration procedures, and business continuity practices. • Familiarity with change management, release management, and IT service management processes. • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex database and application performance issues. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with application development, infrastructure, and business stakeholders.
