NEUTRON PTE. LTD. is hiring for a Network Engineer (IoT) - 18 months Contract internship — a 12-month, remote Design role based in TIONG BAHRU ROAD, Singapore. It is an unpaid internship. It is open to university students, typically in Year 2–4. Applicants with experience in Environmental Monitoring, Wireless Sensor Networks, Engineering Management, Scripting, and Technology Networking are a strong fit.
About this role
Contract Period: 18 Months Working Location: Central / 2 days WFH Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer with strong IoT and telemetry systems expertise to support the design and implementation of a technology platform. The role will focus on field device connectivity, open-standard data protocols, edge communications, and reliable data transmission from environmental sensors and data loggers into a central ingestion platform. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience working across the full telemetry lifecycle, from sensor and data logger integration to operational device monitoring, buffering, and bidirectional communication with cloud or central data systems. Key Responsibilities • Serve as a technical lead for IoT connectivity, telemetry integration, and field-to-platform communication design. • Design and implement communication flows between automatic weather stations, data loggers, and the central ingestion platform. • Work with environmental telemetry equipment, commercial data loggers, and equivalent field instrumentation systems. • Develop integrations using open-standard IoT protocols such as MQTT or equivalent messaging protocols. • Implement edge-side data buffering and retry strategies to handle intermittent cellular or field network connectivity. • Support device state monitoring, sensor inventory tracking, calibration offset handling, and operational management workflows. • Perform low-level data manipulation, including byte stream parsing, bitwise operations, and Big-Endian/Little-Endian data handling. • Collaborate with data engineers, service designers, field technicians, and project stakeholders to validate end-to-end system behaviour. • Contribute to technical documentation, integration specifications, and operational handover materials. Required Skills and Experience • Strong experience designing or implementing IoT, telemetry, SCADA-adjacent, or sensor data communication systems. • Hands-on experience with data logger integration and environmental sensor platforms. • Proficiency in scripting or programming for device communication, data parsing, and protocol handling. • Practical experience with MQTT or comparable IoT communication protocols. • Good understanding of cellular network reliability issues, offline buffering, retries, and edge connectivity patterns. • Ability to troubleshoot field-to-cloud data flows across hardware, network, protocol, and application layers. • Strong technical communication skills and ability to work with both engineering and operational teams. Good to Have • Experience with meteorological, environmental monitoring, utilities, transport, industrial IoT, or mission-critical operational systems. • Familiarity with time-series data ingestion, device health monitoring, and calibration workflows. • Experience contributing to early-stage platform builds that later transition into production-grade platforms.
