About this role
Job Scope: · Keep a log of student visits Maintain clear records of who uses the room, when, and for how long. This information is essential for identifying usage patterns, planning interventions, and evaluating the room's effectiveness over time. · Monitor attendance and usage patterns Be observant of students who access the space frequently or for extended periods. Where necessary, communicate with the Year Head or Student Development Team to explore further support or guidance for the student. · Maintain discipline and structure within the space While the room encourages autonomy and unstructured play, clear boundaries must still be set. Ensure students understand appropriate behaviours within the Chill-Out Room and gently redirect them when needed. · Ensure cleanliness and upkeep Check that the room is tidy and equipment is used properly. Encourage students to take care of the space by returning items, using materials respectfully, and leaving the room as they found it. · Create a calm and respectful environment Model and promote a soothing, respectful tone that invites emotional safety. Staff should interact in a gentle, non-intrusive manner — offering quiet support without pushing students to explain or perform. The goal is to allow students to pause and reset at their own pace. · Others Support the Back-to-School initiative periodically Staff will be required to follow the bus and engage students who have challenges coming to school Staff will need to have an empathetic disposition when partnering with parents whose family challenges prevent their child from regularly attending school. Requirements: • Calm, empathetic, and observant presence -- Able to create a safe and non-judgmental environment where students feel supported. • Firm but fair -- Able to set clear boundaries and expectations while maintaining a warm and respectful tone. • Skilled in managing challenging behaviours -- Confident in handling students who may be dysregulated or disruptive, and capable of de-escalating situations with sensitivity and professionalism. • Diploma holder and above preferably with at least 2 years of experience as a Youth worker working with students.
