About this role
The Workplace Safety and Health Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement of the company’s Workplace Safety and Health management system. The role ensures that workplace activities are carried out safely, in compliance with applicable WSH legal requirements, company procedures, risk assessments, and client requirements. 1. WSH Compliance and Implementation• Assist in implementing the company’s Workplace Safety and Health policies, procedures, safe work practices, and risk control measures. • Conduct regular site inspections to identify unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and potential workplace hazards. • Monitor compliance with the Workplace Safety and Health Act, subsidiary regulations, approved codes of practice, and client safety requirements. • Ensure that safety requirements are communicated to supervisors, workers, subcontractors, and relevant stakeholders. • Assist in maintaining a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors, and other persons at the workplace. 2. Risk Management• Assist in the preparation, review, and implementation of Risk Assessments, Safe Work Procedures, Method Statements, and Permit-to-Work systems. • Ensure that risk control measures are properly implemented before and during work activities. • Participate in risk assessment discussions and toolbox meetings. • Monitor high-risk activities such as work at height, lifting operations, hot works, confined space work, electrical work, excavation, and other hazardous activities, where applicable. 3. Site Inspection and Monitoring• Conduct daily or routine workplace inspections and report findings to the WSH Officer, Project Manager, or management. • Follow up on corrective and preventive actions to ensure timely closure of safety findings. • Monitor housekeeping, access and egress, emergency routes, fire safety equipment, machinery guarding, PPE usage, and general site safety conditions. • Stop unsafe work where there is an imminent danger to persons or property, and escalate the matter to management immediately. 4. Incident Reporting and Investigation• Assist in the reporting, recording, and investigation of workplace incidents, accidents, near misses, dangerous occurrences, and occupational diseases. • Support root cause analysis and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. • Maintain incident records and monitor the implementation of corrective actions. • Assist in preparing incident reports for internal reporting and regulatory submission, where required. 5. WSH Training and Communication• Conduct or support safety induction, toolbox meetings, safety briefings, and awareness programmes. • Promote safe work practices and positive safety culture among employees and contractors. • Ensure that workers are informed of relevant hazards, control measures, emergency procedures, and PPE requirements. • Assist in verifying that workers have attended relevant safety training required for their work activities. 6. Permit-to-Work and Documentation• Assist in administering and monitoring Permit-to-Work systems, where applicable. • Verify that permits are properly completed, approved, displayed, and closed out. • Maintain WSH-related records, including inspection reports, training records, risk assessments, permits, equipment inspection records, safety meeting minutes, and incident reports. • Support internal and external audits by ensuring that WSH documents and records are properly maintained. 7. Emergency Preparedness• Assist in implementing emergency response procedures, including fire, first aid, rescue, spill response, evacuation, and other emergency arrangements. • Participate in emergency drills and assist in evaluating drill effectiveness. • Ensure that emergency equipment, first aid boxes, fire extinguishers, spill kits, and emergency access routes are maintained and accessible. • Support the coordination of emergency response teams where applicable. 8. Contractor and Subcontractor Safety Management• Assist in monitoring contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with site safety requirements. • Participate in contractor safety briefings and coordination meetings. • Report non-compliance by contractors and follow up on corrective actions. • Ensure that contractors submit required safety documentation before commencing work. RequirementsMinimum Qualifications• Advanced Certificate in Workplace Safety and Health, or equivalent recognised WSH qualification. • Relevant safety coordination experience in construction, manufacturing, logistics, facilities management, marine, or related industries would be an advantage. • Knowledge of Singapore WSH legal requirements and risk management practices. Preferred Competencies• Familiar with Risk Assessment, Safe Work Procedures, Method Statements, and Permit-to-Work systems. • Able to conduct workplace inspections and prepare inspection reports. • Good communication and coordination skills. • Able to engage workers, supervisors, contractors, and management effectively. • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. • Able to work independently and as part of a team. AuthorityThe Workplace Safety and Health Coordinator is authorised to: • Highlight unsafe acts and unsafe conditions to relevant personnel. • Recommend corrective and preventive actions. • Escalate serious safety concerns to the WSH Officer, Project Manager, or management. • Stop work temporarily where there is an imminent risk of injury, ill health, fire, property damage, or environmental harm, subject to company procedures. • Request relevant safety documents, training records, permits, and inspection records from workers, supervisors, or contractors. Working ConditionsThe role may require regular site walks, outdoor work, coordination with contractors, and monitoring of high-risk activities. The WSH Coordinator may be required to attend emergency situations, safety meetings, inspections, audits, and incident investigations as necessary.
