Dr Somika Bhatnagar Group: Assistant Research Officer

We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated candidate to join our team as an Assistant Research Officer for a two-year project focusing on plant biotechnology and sustainable forestry research. The successful candidate will produce trees through tissue culture, raise microbial cultures, and investigate secondary metabolite production resulting from plant–microbe interactions. The project involves collaborative forestry research with international partners. Responsibilities: • Prepare culture media, laboratory reagents, and sterilization solutions • Culture, produce, and package tissue-cultured trees for transport and delivery • Conduct acclimatization, soil establishment, and maintenance of trees in greenhouse conditions • Prepare microbial formulations and conduct host–microbe interaction studies • Support molecular and metabolite profiling of plant products • Measure plant growth parameters including height, stem diameter, survival, and biomass-related traits • Maintain accurate experimental records, data logs, and photographs for report writing • Assist in general laboratory maintenance and procurement • Assist in training research assistants, technicians, and nursery staff Requirements: • B.Sc. in Plant Science, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related field • Hands-on experience in microbial, molecular, and plant tissue culture techniques is required • Energetic, independent, and eager to learn and adapt to work effectively in laboratory and greenhouse environments • Good oral and written communication skills and willingness to work as part of a diverse team Salary and benefits are commensurable to educational qualifications and working experience of the candidate.
