PrimaryResponsibility: The High School Counsellor will work closely with School Administration and related support services in planning and implementing a counselling programme,providing direct counselling intervention for students and case consultations to school personnel and parents. The primary focus of counselling support will be to: i) Support the social-emotional well-being of students. ii) Develop collaborative practices between teachers, parents and outside agencies. iii) Fulfil related administrative duties to record and assess issues of studentwell-being. Duties The duties outlined in this job description may be modified by the Principal to reflect or anticipate changes in the job,commensurate with the salary and job title. • Support the social-emotional well-being of students by: ● Delivering counselling services in a multicultural setting, including early identification and evaluation of students with social-emotional needs. ● Providing individual and group counselling and required interventions for students ● Scheduling and coordinating appointments as the need arises, throughout the school day asappropriate. ● Working closely with school staff and parents or guardians of students counselled aswell as external support professionals where appropriate. ● Ensuring thatcounselling practice is evidence-based and up-to-date by engaging in ownreadings and ongoing professional development. ● Presenting workshops or talks to students on relevant well-being topics. ● Providing crisis intervention and support when needed, including risk assessments of ourmore vulnerable students. ● Have a strong working knowledge of safeguarding practices and requirements. Expected to be an active member of the safeguarding team and adhere to all safeguarding policies and procedures as outlined by the school. ● Incorporating the core values of SJI International as a Catholic Lasallian School. • Develop collaborative practices between teachers, parents and outside agencies by: ● Enhancing learning opportunities and achievement for students by working with teachers tosupport them in meeting the social and emotional needs of students in the classroom. ● Analyse departmental data such as numbers, age range and types of problems to inform relevant stakeholders of identifiable trends to better meet and support theneeds of our students. ● Providing consultation and training to teachers on relevant topics. ● Promoting asystemic and collaborative approach to the delivery of counselling services within the school community by liaising closely with school staff (Student Support Team and Pastoral Team). • Fulfil related administrative duties to record and assess issues of student wellbeing by: ● Maintaining accurate counselling records for individual students. ● Demonstrating awareness and skills regarding data protection, information sharing, and the maintenance of highly sensitive and confidential records i.e. sharing sensitive information appropriately e.g. with Heads of Grade, whilst maintaining an appropriate level of confidentiality. ● Update theschool’s safeguarding software, CPOMS, to accurately share information regarding safeguarding disclosures or concerns. ● Conducting ongoing analysis of counselling data to evaluate the social-emotional needs ofstudents for future planning and development of student support services. ● Contributing information and reports as required for safeguarding purposes or internal record keeping processes. Required Qualifications and experience: i) Appropriate Counselling Qualification. ii) Experience asa School Counsellor. iii) Excellent interpersonal, communication and networking skills. iv) Strong collaboration and problem solving skills. Other duties and responsibilities As with all teachers at SJI International, the High School Counsellor is also expected to contribute significantly to the service and activity programme, to accompany school trips and expeditions and to play a full part in the continued development of a thriving school community.
