About this role
We are seeking a Mainframe Backup Operations Engineer to support enterprise backup, recovery, and tape management operations within a large-scale mainframe environment. The role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, availability, and recoverability of business-critical data through effective backup administration and operational support. Key Responsibilities • Monitor and administer daily mainframe backup operations, ensuring successful completion of scheduled backup and recovery activities. • Manage tape inventory and lifecycle processes using CA 1 Tape Management System, including tape allocation, retention, and archival controls. • Execute backup and restore procedures using ADRDSSU and related mainframe utilities. • Investigate backup job failures, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to minimize operational disruptions. • Review backup reports, logs, and operational metrics to ensure compliance with service level requirements. • Support disaster recovery testing and validation activities to verify backup recoverability and system resilience. • Maintain backup and recovery documentation, operational procedures, and technical runbooks. • Participate in incident, problem, and change management activities in accordance with established IT service management processes. Requirements • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline. • Minimum 5 years of experience in mainframe backup operations and administration. • Hands-on experience with CA 1 Tape Management System, tape operations, and tape lifecycle management. • Working knowledge of ADRDSSU, FlashCopy, backup recovery procedures, and storage management concepts. • Familiarity with disaster recovery processes, resiliency planning, and backup validation activities. • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills. • Ability to support production operations and participate in after-hours support when required.
