About this role
The Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) trains doctors who put patients at the centre of their exemplary care. The School, which offers both undergraduate and graduate programmes, is named after local philanthropist Tan Sri Dato Lee Kong Chian. Established in 2010 by Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in partnership with Imperial College London, LKCMedicine aims to be a model for innovative medical education and a centre for transformative research. The School’s primary clinical partner is the National Healthcare Group, a leader in public healthcare recognised for the quality of its medical expertise, facilities and teaching. The School is transitioning to an NTU medical school ahead of the 2028 successful conclusion of the NTU-Imperial partnership to set up a Joint Medical School. In August 2024, we welcomed our first intake of the NTU MBBS programme, that has been recently enhanced to include themes like precision medicine and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, with an expanded scope in the medical humanities. Graduates from the five-year undergraduate medical degree programme will have a strong understanding of the scientific basis of medicine, with an emphasis on technology, data science and the humanities. We are seeking Research Assistant to join the Nair group, led by Nanyang Assistant Professor Aditya Nair, to study how neural circuits in the brain process states of emotion. The Nair group combines cutting-edge experimental tools with the development of new AI methods to understand and model complex brain data. The role will focus on large-scale data collection of neural activity in mice with the ultimate goal of revealing neural computations that encode states of emotion in mental health disorders. Key Responsibilities: • Collect large-scale neural activity data and carry out an independent research project. • Assist in lab management duties, including purchasing, procurement, budgeting and grant management. • Prepare and contribute to grant applications and conference presentations. The candidate is also expected to write and draft research publications in top neuroscience journals, in collaboration with other lab members. • Attend a weekly lab meeting and journal club and present data and/or papers as necessary. Key Competencies and Requirements: • Bachelor’s degree in life science, neuroscience, computational biology, psychology, or relevant fields. We also invite candidates with interdisciplinary backgrounds to apply. • Demonstrated experience in stereotaxic surgery and neural recording experiments in murine models is highly advantageous. • Proven ability to support laboratory and grant management is highly desirable, including oversight of daily lab operations, coordination of research activities, procurement and inventory management, budget tracking, regulatory compliance, and assistance with grant preparation, submission, and reporting. • Experience analyzing large-scale neural datasets, such as imaging, electrophysiology, or behavioral video data, is preferred but not required. • Competent in information visualization. A working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator is a strong advantage. • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. • Entry level candidates are welcome to apply. We regret to inform that only shortlisted candidates will be notified.
