The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials. We are seeking a Research Engineer to support the scale up of the synthesis of nanomaterials and the development of a more cost effective synthetic route to achieve some of these materials. This role involves extensive use of wet chemistry lab facilities, characterization tools and planning and coordinating of the meetings with company and other stakeholders. The successful candidate will work closely with the research team under Prof Lam Yeng Ming to develop scale up processes and also planning and coordination of the project. Key Responsibilities: • Carry out the synthesis of nanostructured materials. • Conduct advanced characterization on porous particles including SEM/BET/etc. • Develop workflow for scaling up of processes. • Generate/Write reports. • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholder on the various studies in the different labs • Mentoring interns. • Maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers. • Produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings. Job Requirement: • Diploma in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field. • Some relevant technical hands-on experience in synthesis and working in a wet laboratory environment. • Some experience morphological/structural techniques for materials characterization. • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with strong initiatives. • Good communication and written skills. • Responsible and passionate self-starter. • Ability to work independently and develop robust solutions under strict timelines. • Meticulous and organized, with a strong eye for detail and excellent time management skills.
