About this role
The Group Head of Sustainability and Global Citizenship is responsible for shaping and leading the organisation’s global strategy and practice in sustainability, environmental stewardship, and global citizenship education. This role will champion the integration of sustainable thinking and responsible action across all aspects of the organisation - from curriculum and teaching to operations, community engagement, and corporate practices. The Group Head of Sustainability and Global Citizenship will drive a clear and measurable sustainability agend aaligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the organisation’s mission to educate for a better, more sustainable world. Theywill work collaboratively with schools, academic leaders, and operational teamsto embed sustainability into learning experiences, governance, and culture,ensuring meaningful impact and student empowerment at every level. Leadership • Develop and implement a collaborative strategy group wide and across functions that fulfils our vision and mission of enabling us to have a positive impact on people and the planet through education. Sustainability and Global Citizenship in Schools • Strategies and engagements to support sustainability and global citizenship, tailored to suit the needs of each school. • Presentations, workshops, professional learning, mentoring and other forms of engagement for students, teachers, staff, parents and others on sustainability and global citizenship. • Working closely with teachers in planning and everyday lessons to infuse sustainability and global citizenship into any lesson, unit and scope of work. • Work with Heads of College / School on their priorities and strategies and how sustainability and global citizenship can support and enhance those plans. • Residencies in schools to fully support schools across all aspects. • Supporting Global Citizenship Leads across the group and their efficacy, including a yearly GC Leads conference. • Observations, research and connections to find best practice and offer further progression and enhancement on sustainability and global citizenship. • Sharing best practice on sustainability and global citizenship across the group. • Lead on the Student Leadership Conference with the Company's events team each year to train students on leadership for positive change. • Being the conduit from the Company to GC Leads, AMC teams and DBAs in schools on putting together ESG reports. Engagement with Headquarters and other staff • Work closely with other staff to support and enhance a culture of sustainability and global citizenship with initiatives, events and policies. • Fully support and co-create with the Company's education team and others on new education initiatives adding to global literacy and competency. • Support all aspects of the schools’ global citizenship education - admissions, recruitment, building design, curriculum development, parent engagement, etc. • Set new levels of best practice in sustainability and global citizenship within HQs and extending out to schools, partners, parents and the education sector. • Connect with steering committees and the GEB to report progress, recommendations and aspirations. • Working with Events at headquarters to support important group wide sustainability and global citizenship events like One Voice and Earth Week / Eco Camp. Broader Engagement • Speaking at or attending conferences, events and networks to share the work and initiatives on sustainability and global citizenship from the group. • External partner engagement, including sustainability networks and service providers in schools. • Support for progressing new education and industry initiatives and programmes. • Pursuing opportunities for collaboration with mutual benefit and maximum impact. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Education, International Development, or a related field. • Master’s degree preferred (e.g. Sustainability Leadership, Education for Sustainable Development, or Public Policy). Essential Skills and Experience • Demonstrated experience teaching within a K-12 education environment, including leading S&GC or equivalent. • An ‘expert’ in a range of areas within S&GC, with the subject knowledge, experience and gravitas to influence at all levels, including the Group Executive Board. • A highly capable public speaker, who is known and respected in the S&GC field. Proven ability to design and work with teachers to deliver engaging, age-appropriate learning experiences. • This role requires extensive travel to, and time spent in, all schools under the Group.
