Role: Systems Engineer (Windows, RHEL, Backup & Storage) Location: LAVENDAR/KALLANG Standby: Required Type of Role: Contract (JULY 2026 - MARCH 2027) [RENEWABLE] Remuneration: Base Salary - $5,100 Renumeration: 1 month bonus upon completion of contract (subjected to attendance, performance etc..) START: JULY 2026 Project Overview: This Scope of Work defines the responsibilities and deliverables for the Systems Engineer responsible for managing, maintaining, and optimising enterprise systems infrastructure, including Microsoft Windows servers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, backup solutions, and storage platforms. The goal is to ensure high availability, security, performance, and data integrity across all systems. Objectives: • Maintain highly available and secure system environments. • Ensure reliable backup, recovery, and data protection. • Optimise system and storage performance. • Support business continuity and disaster recovery readiness. • Deliver stable and efficient infrastructure operations. Scope of Services: Windows Server Administration • Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments. • Manage Active Directory (AD), Group Policy (GPO), DNS, DHCP. • Perform patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation. • Administer services such as IIS, file servers, and print services. • Monitor system performance and event logs. Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Administration • Install, configure, and maintain RHEL servers. • Perform system hardening and security compliance (e.g., CIS benchmarks) • Manage user access, permissions, and SSH controls. • Configure services (e.g., Apache, NGINX, database support where applicable) • Execute patching, kernel updates, and system tuning. Backup & Recovery Management • Implement and manage enterprise backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, NetBackup, Commvault) • Configure backup policies (full, incremental, differential) • Monitor backup jobs and resolve failures. • Perform regular restore testing (file-level, VM-level, full system) • Ensure compliance with retention and regulatory requirements. Storage Management • Manage SAN, NAS, and DAS storage environments. • Provision storage (LUNs, volumes, file shares) • Monitor storage capacity, performance, and utilisation. • Perform storage optimisation (tiering, deduplication, compression) • Support storage replication and disaster recovery configurations. System Monitoring & Performance Management • Monitor servers, storage, and backup infrastructure. • Analyse CPU, memory, disk, and I/O performance. • Implement alerting and incident response procedures. • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks. Security & Compliance • Apply system hardening for Windows and RHEL environments. • Manage patching cycles and vulnerability remediation. • Support audits and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO, CIS, internal policies) • Maintain endpoint protection and system security configurations. Incident Management & Support • Provide Level 2 / Level 3 support for system-related incidents. • Troubleshoot OS, storage, and backup issues. • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions. • Participate in incident response and escalation processes. Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity • Support DR planning and implementation. • Configure replication and failover mechanisms. • Conduct DR drills and testing. • Ensure RPO/RTO objectives are met. Automation & Optimisation • Develop scripts (PowerShell, Bash) to automate routine tasks. • Optimise system provisioning and configuration management. • Support Infrastructure-as-Code practices where applicable. Documentation & Reporting • Maintain system architecture diagrams and documentation. • Document configurations, SOPs, and runbooks. • Generate regular reports on system health, backup success, and storage utilisation. • Maintain asset and inventory records. Deliverables • System build and configuration documentation. • Backup policy and recovery reports. • Storage allocation and utilisation reports. • Incident and RCA reports. • Security and compliance documentation. • Operational runbooks and knowledge base updates. Roles & Responsibilities: Systems Engineer • Execute all system administration and maintenance tasks. • Ensure compliance with security and operational standards. • Provide technical expertise and continuous improvement. Client/Organisation • Provide access to systems, tools, and documentation. • Approve changes and maintenance windows. • Support audit and compliance requirements. Tools & Technologies • Operating Systems: Windows Server, RHEL. • Backup Solutions: Commvault, Networker Backup. • Storage Platforms: Dell EMC. • Monitoring Tools: eG. • Automation Tools: PowerShell, Bash, Ansible. Acceptance Criteria • Systems meet defined performance and availability SLAs. • Backups are successful and validated through restore tests. • Storage utilisation and performance within acceptable thresholds. • Documentation is complete and approved. Change Management • All changes to system configurations, backup policies, or storage allocations must follow the organisation’s change management process with proper approvals, testing, and rollback planning. Requirements: • Minimum ITE/Diploma/Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant disciplines. • Minimum 2 years’ experience managing, maintaining, and optimising enterprise systems infrastructure, including Microsoft Windows servers, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, backup solutions, and storage platforms. • Applicants' in possession of Microsoft, Red Hat certifications only will be entertained.
